The Sexual Minority Alliance of Alameda County (SMAAC) is an Oakland, California multi-service non-profit agency targeting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, and Intersex youth and young adults. We are committed to providing a safe space that fosters their transition to a healthy adulthood.

A keystone project of Determining Our Own Destiny is the The Ambassadors For Change project. On June 1, 2006 we made history with the release of our first CD, "HEALING IS FOR YOU," a collaborative production which has some inspiring gospel songs as well as messages that promote HIV testing, education, prevention, care and treatment. The CD is our first attempt to bring gospel music and HIV education & prevention along with care and treatment together.

WORLD was founded in April 1991 by women with HIV and now maintains the following programs: WORLD Newsletter, HIV University, Peer Advocates , Perinatal Peer Advocacy, Latina Initiative, AIDS Resource Library with Internet access for clients, Retreats for HIV+ women, Information and referrals Speakers Bureau, and more

For more than two decades, the Perinatal Council has provided compassionate, comprehensive, culturally sensitive, and accessible pregnancy, post-partum, and pediatric health services, as well as life skills programs that benefit at-risk children and families in Alameda and Contra Costa counties in the State of California.

Ashay by the Bay was established in 1997.  One of its business units, Mindful Messages Mentoring Program (MMMP) was created  in 2002.  The MMMP offers an innovative Health Education, Culture and Life Skills program for youth ages 11- 18.  It utilizes spoken word (poetry) curriculum and the concept of "mindfulness" to change at risk behavior. Some of the topics covered in the curriculum have an Africentric focus, others have a more universal appeal and include, Abstinence, Safe Sex, HIV/AIDS, STD's, Drugs, Relationships, Peer Pressure, Education, Family and Violence Prevention.  Ashay by the Bay also sells a unique selection of Africentric Children's Books (Pre-School and K-12) and other educational products to organizations, schools, educators, parents and of course kids.

AIDS Project East Bay (APEB) is a community based organization, dedicated to preventing the spread of HIV and supporting individuals infected with the virus through programs targeted at some of the most vulnerable and marginalized individuals in Alameda County. APEB ensures that individuals and communities beyond the reach of other agencies receive professional services of the highest standard.

Aspiring Better Community, Inc. is an agency created to identify, challenge and overcome the individual, social, cultural, and institutional barriers, which discourage or prevent people's aspirations, lives and communities from thriving.

Our mission is to prevent the further spread of HIV, Hepatitis C, and other sexually transmitted diseases in Alameda County. We aim to reach our goal through outreach, needle exchange, HIV education and prevention, one-on-one encounters, unstructured groups and prevention case management (PAM), harm reduction workshops and other educational activities addresssing the needs of the intravenous drug user and other at risk groups for HIV infection.
